Sledgehammer's self-titled debut album, Sledgehammer, is a heavy metal masterpiece that will leave metalheads banging their heads and craving more. The album features ten tracks of pure, unadulterated metal, with thunderous riffs, pounding drums, and scorching vocals.

The album opens with the title track, "Sledgehammer," which sets the tone for the rest of the album with its blistering guitar riffs and driving rhythm section. An oi! band from Tokyo, Japan. Formed around the beginning of the 1990s, they were one of the first Samurai Spirits Skinhead (SSS) bands. Their recordings were widely distributed during the early/mid 1990s by punk/oi! labels in Europe and the USA and thus, Sledge Hammer became one of the most widely-known Japanese underground bands amongst Western listeners. They later changed their name to еৌ (Tettsui), which means 'Iron Hammer' (literal translation) or Sledgehammer, incorporated some heavy metal influences into their sound and then released the popular ץܬ˼ (Nihon ōkami = Japanese Wolf/Wolves) album. Some members of this band were previously in , and the .{;}NWOBHM band from Slough formed in 1978, now disbanded.

Was just watching BB programme on 70s rock and remembered this song. This was my first record and ultimately got me into rock. I think I still have the picture disc somewhere. I purchased it as Mike Cooke, lead singer, was my teacher at St. Anthony's school in Slough during the late 70s. Years later he came to my wedding but did not play this though!

Single was released in 1979 and was on Metal For Muthas. But the later issue (re-release) on Valiant was issued in 1983. The 1979 issue was on Slammer.

I saw them at Watford College in 1980. This track was played by John
Peel - it was the only time he played a heavy metal track on his show around that time. Very good song.
