Review by Mamas Sumarno

Shine So Hard, the 1981 album by Echo And The Bunnymen, is a collection of live recordings and studio outtakes that perfectly captures the raw energy and darkly poetic lyrics that made the band a post-punk icon. The album starts with the blistering "The Puppet" and never lets up, with tracks like "Do It Clean" and "Stars Are Stars" showcasing the band's ability to blend catchy hooks with brooding atmospheres. Ian McCulloch's distinctive voice is at its most commanding, while the interplay between Will Sergeant's guitar and Les Pattinson's bass creates a hypnotic backdrop for the songs. The live tracks, including a cover of The Doors' "Roadhouse Blues," highlight the band's dynamic stage presence and give a glimpse into the intensity of their live shows. Shine So Hard is a must-have for fans of Echo And The Bunnymen and an essential document of the post-punk era.

I wonder what the real reason was that Paul deFreitas shaved his head.

Wish I had been old enough to see them in their prime. Ian's muppet dancing at 23:50 and 24:38 during Crocodiles

Wow, this is amazing quality footage for 1981... Do you also have the Echo and the Bunnymen - 'Life at Brians/Play at home' documetary by any chance?

Cant beat the climactic segment of Over the Wall, no matter how many bands work I've listened to over the years this echoing guitar line always inspires and nostalgicizes if that's a word , I wish I'd seen them early on but at least I saw them in original line up at Wembley arena, remember mac dropping his Mic during Thorn of Crowns and Pete pointing to the sky for more volume...Will as ever ethereal and Les Pounding!

Looking at my battered copy of the Shine So Hard ep and noted it was the soundtrack to a film so decided to look it up on youtube. I have had this record for decades now but never seen the film. Very interesting, thank you for uploading this. And the great Pete Defreitas with a skin 'ead! Suited him actually.

I was there the day this was filmed. I was on a month long engineering training course for BT nearby, so, my boyfriend and I decided to visit the Pavilion that morning on our day off and walked into this... which was great because we were fans. The film crew guys asked us to walk through the palms and vines in the jungle undergrowth and to peek through the leaves whilst they filmed us. We then got invited to the show later that day, which was super hush hush, super fans only, we felt so privileged!!
It was a really great day out, a wonderful surprise.
Thanks for posting this, because I have never seen it either. Felt great to be there though.

I was at this gig - filled in a form in the NME to get tickets - 17 years old and just passed my driving test - managed to blag my dad's car for the trip (Austin Alegro - Square steering Wheel) - There with my then girlfriend - Fantastic day out for a youngster!!

Thanks for uploading this! I was there. We arrived by coach that was intended to take the fans to the gig. My older cousin Bob was a fan and this was my first concert. Its so long ago so my memories are a bit shrouded but i do recall loads of camouflage gear worn by the fans (and the band) There were a few cameras rolling about so we knew it was being filmed. The song that sticks in my mind was "Pride" which didnt make the soundtrack. Will Sergeant was using long delays on his guitar and it sounded great on this song. A great memory. A great band. Lucky i was a first generation fan. Still am.

A very young Bunnymen here, fantastic, creative footage of them in their Post Punk youth. What I would have given to be there to witness this! I can only imagine.
